AUGUSTA, ME. -
April 12, 2002 - Each year the President of the United States
designates one week as Small Business Week to recognize outstanding small
business owners for their personal achievements and contributions to our
Nation's economy. Small businesses represent more than 99 percent of
all employers, provide 75 percent of the net new jobs, and generate a
majority of American innovations.
This year,
National Small Business Week will be held from May 5-11. Charles
"Wick" Johnson, President of Kennebec Tool & Die, has been selected as
the 2002 U.S. Small Business Administration Small Business Person of the
Year for Maine and will represent the State at these ceremonies in
Washington, D.C..
In addition to the
national week, Maine celebrates Maine Small Business Week, during which
the District Office of the SBA hosts a Gala Awards Dinner. Mr.
Johnson will be presented with his award at this year's event scheduled
for June 4, 2002 at the Senator Inn located in Augusta.
