AUGUSTA,
ME. – July 14, 2003 – In response to demand, Kennebec Tool &
Die, Inc. has just purchased 4 additional machining centers and created
12 new jobs. The new equipment includes 1multi-tasking turning
center with live tooling, 1 six-pallet horizontal milling center, and 2
four-axis vertical milling centers. Wick Johnson, Kennebec’s
President says “This additional capacity will be absorbed by growth in
our traditional aerospace and defense markets, supplemented by
increasing involvement in the semiconductor, medical, and technology
markets. If customers
absorb all of the new capacity, another dozen jobs could be created in
2004.”
Kennebec has also partnered with
the State of Maine and the Maine MEP to implement lean manufacturing
methodologies. Harvey Smith, Kennebec’s Operations Manager says
“This will further enhance Kennebec’s value in the supply chain by
eliminating non-value-added activities, improving cycle times,
strengthening teamwork, reducing costs, and enhancing customer
satisfaction. When positioning the new equipment in our plant, we
took advantage of the latest thinking about factory-floor layout and
cellular manufacturing so we are able to achieve the fastest possible
turn times for our customers. We are confident
this capacity will sell quickly.”
